The UOCAVA Clerk is a multitasker, who works with high-volume, time sensitive work. They will be responsible for assisting military and overseas voters to register to vote, process requests for an early ballot and instruct voters how to send/receive ballot materials through the secure UOCAVA portal. They must possess professional communications skills (verbal and written), as well as have advanced computer skills.

Ballot Processors prepare ballots for the Ballot Tabulation Center and are required to work with a partner who is of a different political party than themselves. Ballot Processors are attentive to detail and handle high volumes of time sensitive paperwork, accounting-oriented work environment.

The Special Election Board staff will partner with a team member from a differing political party to provide services to voters. These services are focused on facilitating voting for those who are confined due to illness or disability.

Job Duties

• The teams are paired into bipartisan boards to travel throughout Maricopa County.

• Responsible for providing services and assistance to voters that are ill, disabled, or confined to their personal residence or assisted living facility.

• Perform outreach to facilities such as nursing homes and assisted living facilities.

The Signature Verification/Ballot Flagging Clerk will participate in reviewing signatures on the mail in early ballot packets according to standardized processes and procedures. The clerks must be detail-oriented and handle high volumes of time-sensitive tasks. The clerks will assist in performing curing activities and completing data entry for voter requests. This position requires strong computer skills.

Job Duties

• Utilizes Elections software to verify voter signatures on affidavit envelopes with records.

• Analyzes signatures and performs other research such as contacting voters directly to ensure the efficacy of mail-in ballot processing.

• Responsible for performing curing responsibilities by contacting voters via phone and mail.

• Assisting with sorting mail and data entry.

The Mail Room Clerk is responsible for safely and securely transporting all elections mail including returned ballot packets. The clerks must be attentive to detail and handle high volumes of time-sensitive tasks. The clerk will organize, deliver, and receive mail. The clerk will utilize specialized machines to open envelopes according to standardized processes and procedures.

Job Duties

• Participates in completing daily mail routes.

• Uses electronic mail-opening machinery to open items.

• Organizes trays and auditing paperwork for transfer to the ballot processing boards.

Adjudicators in the Ballot Tabulation Center partner and work closely with a team member from a differing political party to determine a voter's intent on ballots with marks that are unrecognized by tabulators. The Ballot Tabulation Center Adjudicator is attentive to detail and works well with others.

Inspectors in the Ballot Tabulation Center oversee decisions between adjudication teams from differing political parties. The Inspector must be a registered voter that is either registered as Independent or is not affiliated with any political party, is attentive to detail, and works well with others.

Operators in the Ballot Tabulation Center process ballots using a tabulation machine and prepare ballots for storage. Operators are attentive to detail and work well with others.

• Sort, stack, and straiten bundles of ballots to feed into tabulator machines and/or scanners.

• Lift and remove ballot trays from the ballot racks to tabulation machines

The Ballot Curing Clerk will focus primarily on voter outreach to assist early voters to “cure” their ballots. This process is completed when a voter’s signature fails the signature verification process and requires additional identity verification. The right candidate for this role will enjoy speaking with voters and educating them on the curing process, mainly over the phone. It’s a plus if you thrive in a fast-paced environment and are detail-oriented, enthusiastic, and courteous. 

Job Duties

• Utilize proprietary Elections software to view signature files and verify voter signatures on affidavit envelopes. 

• Outreach to voters primarily via telephone to verify identity on EV affidavit envelopes and explain simple processes.

• Perform general office duties including data entry, email communications to voters, mail sorting, filing, and other duties as needed.

Ballot Couriers are responsible for retrieving early ballots from ballot drop boxes throughout Maricopa County and securely delivering them to the Elections Tabulation Center for processing. The Ballot Courier partners and travels with a team member from a differing political party.

Job Duties

• Work in teams of two representing different political affiliations (e.g. Republican and Democrat).

• Retrieves ballots from Ballot Drop Boxes and securely delivers them to the central warehouse for processing.

• Completes a chain-of-custody form that is signed by a Polling Location or Vote Center Inspector to ensure the lawful hand-off and transportation of ballots.

• A peer audit is conducted when ballots arrive at the central warehouse and ballots are prepared for transport.

Truck drivers are responsible for ensuring that elections equipment and supplies are delivered to multiple voting locations throughout Maricopa County in a timely manner. Drivers are further responsible for inspecting, preparing, and loading equipment to be loaded on trucks. At voting locations, drivers are responsible for unloading trucks along with some set-up tasks at voting locations.

Job Duties

• Operates a fleet of 26-foot box-trucks with lift gates to replenish labels, pallet stacks, loads/unloads trailers, and moves stowed products to various locations.

• Transports equipment and items to and from Polling Locations and Vote Centers.

• Work in teams of two with a partner from a different political party.

• Supports other warehouse functions such as checking equipment in and out, lifting and stacking inventory, and general warehouse maintenance.

The T-tech is responsible for the technical set up of voting locations and serves as the primary responder for technical issues that arise during an election cycle. The T-Tech works closely with other support staff to ensure that check in stations are communicating properly, printers are functioning and that network and power cabling is properly configured.

Job Duties

• Works in collaboration with Troubleshooters and Poll Workers to set up Vote Centers and Polling Locations prior to opening for Election Activities.

• Supports troubleshooting efforts throughout the election cycle and equipment security and retrieval activities at the close of Election Day.

• Prepares and retrieves information and enters/updates information in reports, logs, or other documentation/record-keeping systems.

• Analyzes programs to ensure prompt problem resolution and ticket closure.

• Travels throughout Maricopa County to perform laptop software, hardware installations, configurations, repairs, and ongoing support.

• Carry a 50lb backpack of materials for repairs throughout the assignment.

The Hotline Representative is a vital link of communication between the Central Tabulation Center and Poll Workers at Vote Centers throughout Maricopa County.

• Provide basic information and assist callers with voter information for Elections.

• Work on a computer database in conjunction with multi-line telephone.

• Listens carefully and speaks clearly while maintaining a pleasant, professional demeanor.

• Operates Election proprietary computer software, and interacts with multiple databases.

• Ability to multitask between calls and accurately enter work tickets.

• Utilize multi-line telephones for inbound and outbound calls to and from field workers.

• Support other areas as needed.
