Maricopa County Is Now Hiring Temporary Workers for the 2024 Primary Election

The 2024 Primary Election is not until July 30 but hiring has begun for the more than 2000 employees needed to administer the election. In addition to hourly pay, a $1,250 incentive will be available to eligible workers.

“Recruiting, processing and training election workers begins long before Election Day,” stated Jennifer Liewer, Deputy Elections Director for Communications. “The voting process depends heavily on the participation of community members to ensure transparent, secure, and fair elections.”

In addition to 1500 poll workers, Maricopa Elections will need to hire nearly 500 positions to staff operations in support of early voting, tabulation, and other critical functions. These positions include:

  • warehouse drivers,
  • technical support,
  • ballot couriers,
  • clerks,
  • staff trainers,
  •  recruiters,
  • tabulation staff,
  • ballot processing boards,
  • hotline support staff,
  • and more.

Workers must be registered to vote, pass a background check, and have a willingness to work alongside members from all political parties. Positions last from a few days to a few months.

To kick off recruitment efforts, Maricopa Elections is hosting an in-person, on-the-spot hiring event:

  • When: Friday, May 3rd, 2024
  • Where: Maricopa County Sheriff's Training Center Auditorium, 2627 S. 35th Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85003
  • Time: Interviews will be conducted from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Prospective hires are encouraged to arrive prepared for interviews, equipped with their resumes and necessary hiring documents. Pay for these temporary positions range from $14.35 to $21 per hour depending on position and experience.

“One of the greatest parts of being an Election Worker is having the opportunity to meet and assist people in your community,” continued Liewer. “All employees are trained to do their jobs based on Arizona laws to ensure the integrity of voting in Maricopa County.”
