Update for Maricopa County Voters Needing to Provide Documentary Proof of Citizenship

Starting June 26, 2025, approximately 83,000 Maricopa County voters needing to provide Documentary Proof of Citizenship (DPOC) received a letter containing incorrect information due to an error by a third-party county printing vendor. This letter incorrectly stated the voter had obtained a driver’s license in another state and needed to confirm their Arizona residency.

The correct letter they were intended to receive, and will receive shortly, explained that the Arizona Secretary of State has identified them as individuals impacted by a Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) data issue affecting their citizenship verification.

As soon as the Maricopa County Recorder’s Office became aware of the third-party vendor’s error, we took immediate corrective action. A revised letter with the correct information and instructions has been mailed to affected voters, at the third-party vendors expense, and will arrive in the coming days.

If you received the incorrect letter and have not moved or obtained an out-of-state driver’s license, you may disregard it. Please watch for the corrected letter, which will contain the appropriate information regarding your voter status and any necessary next steps.
