Precinct Committeemen

To qualify as a candidate for the office of Precinct Committeemen, candidates must submit their nomination forms during the partisan candidate filing period. Before filing any forms, candidates are encouraged to check their voter registration status at BeBallotReady.Vote to confirm their precinct and party registration.

Required nomination forms for this office are:

• Nomination Paper
• Nomination Petitions with at least the number of required signatures

Once both are submitted to the Maricopa County Elections Department, the candidate will be issued a filing receipt confirming the number of signatures filed. Supplemental signatures may be filed up until the closing of the filing period. All candidate forms are subject to court challenges. The nomination paper submitted must be an original document with a wet signature and must include all of the following:

• The precinct name and legislative district for which the candidate is seeking election.
• The political party of the candidate.
• The date of the election. (Upcoming Primary Election)
• The number of years the candidate has been a citizen of the United States, the State of Arizona, Maricopa County, and the precinct they are seeking office in.
• The candidate's residential address and mailing address if different.
• The candidate's name EXACTLY as they wish it to appear on the ballot. Ballot names must be listed Last Name, First Name. Suffixes and Middle Names/Initials are optional.
• A signature of the candidate declaring under penalty of perjury that the information provided on the Nomination Paper is true and correct, that they are a resident of the County and precinct they are seeking to represent, that they have no outstanding judgements of $1,000 or more against them from failure to comply with campaign finance law, and that at the time of election they are qualifies to hold the office.

Candidates are encouraged to provide their contact information for our office to contact them in the event that they are challenged. This information is not entered into the voter registration database and is only used for the purpose of candidate filing. All information provided on a candidate's nomination papers is subject to public records requests. 

The candidate's name will appear on the ballot exactly as they list it on their nomination paper. Names appear on the ballot in ALL CAPS as:

LAST NAME, FIRST NAME (MIDDLE NAME IF ANY)

Nicknames are acceptable as long as they do not suggest a professional, fraternal, religious, or military title. Candidate may not use slogans or promotional words/phrases in their ballot name. A.R.S. 16-311(G)

• SMITH, JOHN J.
• SMITH, JOHN “J.J.”
• SMITH, J.J.
• SMITH JR., JOHN “J.J.”

The petition form must be printed on white, letter size paper (8.5" x 11"). Petition forms must be printed double sided with 10 signature lines on the front page and circulator information on the back.

The petition form is set by statute. DO NOT alter the wording at the top section of the petition or the circulator statement on the back. DO NOT adjust the line spacing for signatures.

Petition headers must contain the following information:

• County the candidate is seeking election in (Maricopa)
• Precinct name for which the candidate is seeking election in
• Political party of the candidate
• Name of the candidate
• Residential address of the candidate
• Office name for which the candidate is seeking election to (Precinct Committeeman)
• Date of the election (Upcoming Primary Election)

The circulator statement must contain:

• Name of the circulator, who is the person who circulated and witnessed the voter signatures on the face of the petition
• County of residence for the circulator
• Signature of the circulator
• Residential address of the circulator

The candidate must file at least the minimum number of signatures required for the office sought. If there are too few signatures, the candidate's nominating paper and petitions cannot be accepted.

Candidates must gather minimum signatures to qualify to appear on the ballot. Signature requirements are set by A.R.S. § 16-622 and determined by the voter registration totals on January 2 of the year in which the General Election is held. These requirements are specific to each precinct and party.

The 2026 signature requirements will be posted in January of 2026.

Candidates can only collect signatures from qualified signers. For precinct committeemen candidates, a "qualified signer" means:

• A voter who is a registered member of the same party for which the candidate is seeking nomination.
• A voter who is registered in the same precinct for which the candidate is seeking office.

Voters can sign only one petition for a candidate for each office unless there is more than one candidate to be elected for that office. For precincts with a quota of more than one open seat, voters can sign an amount of petitions up to the number of open seats for that precinct and party. 

Write-in candidates must submit only a Write-In Nomination Paper prior to the deadline on April 20, 2026. Petition signatures are not required to qualify as a write-in candidate. 

Write-in candidates do not appear on the ballot but will have their name posted on the official write-in list. The list is available online and at each in-person voting location. 

Write-in candidates must be a qualified elector at the time of filing their nomination paper. A candidate cannot file as a write-in candidate if they attempted to submit petition signatures for the same office and did not meet the number of required minimum signatures. Review A.R.S. § 16-312.F for the reasons a write-in candidate would not be able to file.
